New York, NY —
NYC Transit officials are cracking down on people who board buses without paying the fare.
Officials have identified the worst routes and bus stops and they plan to crack down on them starting as early as next week.
Police officers will be part of the new enforcement, but exactly what role they'll play is still unknown because Police Commissioner Kelly has not signed off on a final plan yet.
Over 22% of fare evasion on buses takes place along 10 routes in Brooklyn and the Bronx. The worst is the B46 in Brooklyn, where drivers have reported a "theft of service" rate of about 4,000 a week.
