New York, NY —
Once the stimulus bill is signed, federal dollars could start coming to New York in seven days. WNYC's Andrea Bernstein has more.
REPORTER: Governor Paterson has set up what he's calling "a cabinet" to manage the state's stimulus money. It will be led by his deputy secretary, Tim Gilchrist, a 25-year veteran of the state department of transportation. A Paterson aide says decisions on how to spend the funds will be put to a group of some 28 state agencies and authorities. But the aide says other than meeting federal standards, there are no criteria yet developed on how the funds should be spent. The cabinet will oversee all funds that go to building things -- from broadband to bridges -- but not money for education and aid to the unemployed. For WNYC, I'm Andrea Bernstein.
