Court Tosses Atlantic Yards Environmental Lawsuit

New York, NY —

Developers of the Atlantic Yards have cleared a legal hurdle. A state appeals court rejected an attempt to block the $4 billion Brooklyn project on environmental grounds.

The decision says the state's environmental review of traffic, crowds, potential terrorism and other concerns satisfied legal requirements.

The 22-acre development plan includes an arena for the New Jersey Nets, office towers and almost 6,000 apartments. Developer Forest City Ratner still faces another lawsuit challenging the state's right to demolish more than a dozen private properties.
