New Yorkers Debate Whole Foods Boycott

The founder and CEO of Whole Foods Market, John Mackey has inspired some fiery debate, after penning an Op Ed piece in the Wall Street Journal about health care reform. Mackey called the plan that Congress is debating "health care entitlement." He also wrote that health care itself is not an "intrinsic right"... and that Americans should consider high deductible insurance polices - like the type Mackey's 54-thousand employees are offered. He stated that people should take more responsibility for themselves by making better lifestyle choices. The backlash against Mackey has been swift. A Facebook group calling for a boycott of the 280 Whole Foods stores nationwide has more than 20,000 members since last week. Some who are are calling for a boycott of the national chain say the philosophy of the Libertarian CEO runs counter to the politics of most of the people who shop at Whole Foods. WNYC's Kathleen Horan set out to take an informal poll of customers on their way to pick up their organic apples and quinoa.
