Coaltition Led by Former Mayor Koch Takes Aim at Albany

Former Mayor Edward Koch says he's had enough of Albany's gridlock and is putting together a coalition of powerful civic groups to take aim at legislators standing in the way of change. So far he's been joined by good government groups Citizens Union and New York Civic. Their goal is to defeat incumbents responsible for what they call "this odious situation" and replace them with candidates committed to reform.

Dick Dadey of Citizens Union says that the special interest in state politics is bad for the public interest.

"There are people who are gaming the system, narrow interests who are gaming the system to try and get their issue won, and often times when those decisions are made it is at the expense of the broader public interest," Dadey says.

Dadey says this is the first step in insuring that the state government performs in way that allows for every voice to be heard.
