Activists Push for Sick Day Reforms

More than 100 activists calling for mandatory sick days for all workers in the city filled the steps of City Hall to put pressure on the city council to pass the so-called Sick Day Bill. The bill would require businesses to offer between five and nine sick days per year, depending on the number of employees.

The bill has been the top priority of the Working Families Party and now has 34 council co-sponsors, but the city's business groups are opposed.

A spokesman says Mayor Michael Bloomberg supports the concept but remains concerned about the bill's potential impact on local businesses.
