New York, NY —
One man is still charged with murder, but the charges against two others have been dropped in connection with last weekend's subway stabbings. Police charged all three last night, but a law enforcement source says Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance is declining to prosecute two of them because of lack of evidence.
The third, Brenddy Garcia, is expected to be arraigned in criminal court this afternoon for second-degree murder. He allegedly killed two men on a No. 2 train in Greenwich Village early last Sunday.
No image was captured of the knife-wielding man, reigniting criticism of the MTA's system of more than 4,000 security cameras, half of which are inoperable. The MTA says 900 additional cameras will be working by June.
