New York, NY —
The Fall General Election is still six months away, but Mayor Bloomberg is already weighing in on some of his picks for statewide office and the legislature. WNYC's Bob Hennelly has more.
REPORTER: The Mayor is generally shy about making political endorsements, but this year he says he'll support candidates who want to lift the cap on charter schools. He says that's why he's supporting the re-election bid of Democratic State Senator Craig Johnson from Long Island.
BLOOMBERG: He was the only one that stood up about a month and a half ago. And I will support him because of that one vote.
REPORTER:The mayor declined to endorse a candidate for Governor, but he has a pick for Attorney General in Dan Donovan, the Republican District Attorney from Staten Island.
BLOOMBERG: It would be a little bit strange to not support somebody who has done a very good job on Staten Island, he really has, take a look at the statistics and number two somebody who campaigned for me.
REPORTER: If he announces he's running for AG, Donovan would have the GOP field to himself. For WNYC I am Bob Hennelly.
REPORTER: The Republican State Convention is June 1st through the 3rd here in New York City.
