Tuesday is School Board Election Day in NJ

This Tuesday, just a fraction of New Jersey's eligible voters are expected to bother to cast a ballot in their their local school board elections.

In addition to selecting their local boards of education voters in over 550 districts will get to weigh in on the district budgets. Last year close to 30 percent of the school budgets were rejected by voters.

Even though New Jersey's ever rising property taxes for local education are a hot button issue just 15 percent of voters are expected to turn out. The lack of voter interest is not just reflected in the small number of cast ballots but also in the dearth of school board candidates' so most incumbents run unopposed. Historically that phenomenon has set the stage for successful last minute write-in campaigns.

Polls must be open at least from 5pm to 9pm but some distirct may opt to be open longer.
