Forrester May Face Campaign Finance Investigation

Republican gubernatorial candidate Doug Forrester continues to be dogged by campaign finance questions.

A lawyer for US Senator Jon Corzine—Forrester's Democratic opponent—wants the state Attorney General's Office to investigate whether Forrester broke state election law by making hundreds of thousands of dollars in donations to Republican candidates and committees while owning a majority interest in an insurance company.

The request comes a day after the state Banking and Insurance Department issued a confusing opinion in the matter, stating that the insurance company can be regulated both in Washington and in New Jersey.

Both Forrester's and Corzine's campaigns have claimed that the opinion validates their positions.
