Many Rank and File Unhappy with Tentative Contract

Many rank and file members of the Transport Workers Union aren't so happy with the tentative contract deal that was approved last night by their leadership. The agreement includes almost 11% in wage increases over 3 years. But workers will have to pay 1.5% for healthcare in exchange for the MTA agreeing not to change the pension plan.

REPORTER: This station agent, who did not want to give her name, says she'll vote against the contract because it cost her so much to strike last week.

AGENT: I mean you have to pay two days plus the days you were out, so it's going to be 9 days that's a lot of money so it was really for nothing.

Union leaders however believe the contract is good because it includes other benefits, such as paid maternity leave and healthcare for retirees who leave New York.

The membership will vote on the plan in January.
