FBI Foils Tunnel Terror Plot

Federal officials say they have disrupted a plot to attack New York city tunnels. According to one official, FBI agents learned of the plan while monitoring Internet chat rooms used by extremists.

The Daily News reported that the plotters wanted to blast a hole inside the Holland tunnel that would deluge the streets of lower manhattan with Hurricane Katrina-like flooding. But experts told the paper that the plan would not work because the lowest points in the Tribeca area are actually ten feet above sea level.

One person in Beirut has been arrested in the alleged plot and the search is on for others. Officials say there's no immiment threat to the tunnels.
