Study Claims Street Fairs Are Too Generic

New York City may be a diverse place but a new study claims the street fairs around town have become too generic. Julie Walker reports.

This year as many as 367 street fairs are expected to take place. That's about 300 too many for most new yorkers according to the center for an Urban Future. The think tank study found that too many street fairs look the same and lack a diversity of products. Part of the reason is that 20 vendors held 46 percent of the food permits at all the city's fairs last year.

Mayor Bloomberg says other vendors are welcome... but the report's authors say the city should do more, including encouraging more local artists to participate.
