Paterson Admits to Affairs

Less than 24 hours after taking office, Gov. David Paterson acknowledged that he had several extramarital affairs - including one with a state employee.

But, Paterson emphasized that he did nothing to violate any aspect of public office.

PATERSON: I didn't break the law. I didn't violate an oath. I didn't use knowingly campaign funds. I didn't use state funds at all, I know that.

REPORTER: Paterson says the affairs took place during a rough patch in his marriage nine years ago. His wife, Michelle, also acknowledged that she had an extramarital affair.

After marriage counseling, Paterson says the couple worked out their problems and decided to stay together.
