Indian Point Owner Seeks Safety Assessment

Entergy, the owner of the Indian Point nuclear power plant, is holding a public meeting on the safety of its facility, hosted by a panel of its own experts. Dr. Neil Todreas, the panel's co-chair, said he is confident his team can do an independent assessment:

TODREAS: “We are not controlled or influenced at all by the sponsor. Of course they're paying the time, the consulting fees. But that's the normal process in any evaluation there's some sponsor who does your payment.”

HOST: In 2002, Dr. Todreas was one of nineteen nuclear experts who signed his name to an academic article suggesting that a nuclear reactor could withstand the impact of a jumbo jet, similar to the ones used in the 9/11 attacks.
