Aretha Arrives: The Queen of Soul Sings First Brooklyn Concert

On Thursday night, Aretha Franklin will perform at Coney Island for free as part of Marty Markowitz's Seaside Summer Concert Series. The show marks the first time the Queen of Soul has played in Brooklyn.

“I know I speak for all Brooklynites when I say we’re thrilled to welcome the Queen of Soul to the County of Kings,” said Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, who will host the event.

The concert, which kicks off at 7:30 P.M. at West 21st Street and Surf Avenue, comes one year after Franklin cancelled two Brooklyn concerts because of a fall that triggered broken ribs and abdominal pain.

The Seaside Summer Concert Series runs through August 18.
