Colin Stetson has carved out a unique space in the contemporary music scene as a man who plays a gigantic saxophone. Not only is he one of the few people to play the bass saxophone, which is an even bigger instrument than the already huge baritone saxophone, he plays it in the craziest possible way. Using an array of extended techniques, he makes wild, pointillistic, trance-like compositions of breathtaking scope and complexity. When he’s not doing that, he’s playing and recording with a “Who’s who?” of modern-day musical music heroes, ranging from the Arcade Fire and Yeasayer to TV on the Radio and Tom Waits. This song, featuring lots of bizarre saxophonic flutterings, comes off Stetson’s last album, New History Warfare Vol. 2: Judges.
