Bassist Ron Carter has been a staple of the jazz scene since performing alongside Miles Davis and Herbie Hancock in the 1960s. But in a career that spans more than fifty years and appearances on more than 2000 albums, his upcoming release is an experiment of sorts. It's titled "Ron Carter's Great Big Band," and it is, surprisingly enough, Ron Carter's first recording as the leader of a big band. He joins us with a pared down trio to perform tunes from that album and a few others, live in the studio.
You can see Ron Carter and his "Great Big Band," at the Jazz Standard tonight through Sunday, September 4. More information here.
