Janelle Monáe said to watch the New York indie band fun. perform was "to perhaps watch the renaissance of Queen mixed with their own fresh approach to music." Her's is a fitting description: the band, whose name starts with a lower-case "f" and ends in a period, is a pleasant mix of 1970s pop, lush instrumentation and catchy lyrics.
The four-year old group — Nate Ruess, Andrew Dost and Jack Antonoff — teamed up with Monáe for "We Are Young." (Her reverb-soaked vocals really shine around 2:30). "We Are Young" was released as a single in September and will be on fun.'s new album Some Nights, which is out in February. Jeff Bhasker, who has worked on albums with Jay-Z, Beyonce, Kanye West and Alicia Keys, is producing the new record.
