Police Involved in Inwood Shooting

NYPD examine Cooper Street in Inwood, where two men were shot by police.

Drug task force officers shot two men late Tuesday in Inwood after they refused to drop their guns and pointed the weapons at the officers, police said.

The New York Police Department officers and Drug Enforcement Agency agents, who are a part of the task force, stopped a vehicle shortly after 10 p.m. on Cooper Street as a part of an operation “against known suspects attempting to execute robberies,” according to the police.

One of the four passengers exited the car with a gun in his hand and refused to drop it, prompting an NYPD officer to fire at him. He was grazed in the shoulder.

Second passenger also stepped out of the car, pointing a gun in the direction of a DEA agent, who then fired at him twice. The suspect was hit in the groin.

Both men were taken to Harlem Hospital and are in stable condition, according to the police.

Four loaded guns were recovered from the vehicle. Charges against the four suspects, all of whom are in custody, are currently pending.
