Guest Picks: Dave Hill

Dave Hill is in love with Chilli from TLC and death metal by Swedish Satanists! Find out what else he likes!

What have you read or seen over the past year (book, play film, etc…) that moved or surprised you?

David Rakoff at the This American Life Live! show recently was mind blowing—absolutely hilarious, touching, and moving. He is from the future. The Swedish heavy metal band Ghost at Bowery Ballroom might also get me pretty fired up. It’s really catchy and they worship Satan.

What are you listening to right now?

I’m on a pretty steady diet of Led Zeppelin and the Smiths usually, but right now I’m really enjoying Rufus Wainrright’s new album. In a perfect world, he would be at the top of the charts. I also love Alesis Hart and Lucy Wainwright Roche. And, of course, Dio.

What's the last great book you read?

I loved Tokyo Vice by Jake Adelstein. Currently I’m reading Leanne Shapton’s forthcoming Swimming Studies, which is so good I can’t handle it. Gavin McInnes’s How to Piss in Public, Michael Ian Black’s You’re Not Doing It Right, and anything the New York Tyrant puts out is also highly recommended.

What's one thing you're a fan of that people might not expect?

I love TLC so much it’s weird. I want to marry Chilli. I also listen to that “How Bizarre” song by OMC at least twice a week. No one sees it coming.

What's your favorite comfort food?

Isn’t all food comfort food? I love huge piles of Indian, Vietnamese, Thai, Ethiopian, and Japanese food. In NYC, I love Corner Bistro, Dell’ Anima, Tavern on Jane, and La Taza de Oro.
