23 Years of Transformative Leadership: A Note From Laura Walker
It is truly overwhelming to write these words.
After having the privilege of serving 23 years at the helm, I will be leaving New York Public Radio in 2019. It is time for me to embark on a new adventure. I have exciting plans that I will be announcing in the New Year.
I will remain President and CEO until March 31 and in an advisory role until June 30, to ensure a smooth transition. I know our amazing, talented and hard-working staff and committed Board of Trustees will forge new paths in the years ahead.
I am grateful to you, our listeners and members who fuel our work every day. You have helped us to transform two City owned radio stations into an audio experience for the 21st Century. You have made it possible for us to tell the stories of Trump Inc., On The Media and Radiolab -- stories that have changed hearts, minds and sometimes even a law.
Your support helped save the last remaining classical music radio station in New York City and enabled us to become leaders in the podcasting revolution, elevating new voices and telling untold stories. We persevered in safeguarding the importance of local news and pioneering a business model that will ensure that independent journalism is not lost in New York, or across the country.
This grand adventure has been a partnership with you. You are the reason we do this and the reason why we get better every day. To meet and, we hope, to exceed your expectations. To achieve our mission “to make the mind more curious, the heart more open and the soul more joyful through excellent audio programming that is deeply rooted in New York.”
It’s been an honor and a pleasure.
With gratitude,
Laura R. Walker
President and CEO, New York Public Radio
