Listen to music from Pauline Oliveros & Jherek Bischoff recorded in and inspired by a massive cistern under the now-decomissioned Fort Worden in Port Townsend, Washington, as well as a huge emptied water tank under the city of Cologne for this New Sounds.
Hear music for just intonation accordion by Pauline Oliveros and overtone singing by a choir of seven, recorded in a drinking water reservoir below the city of Cologne, Germany. The huge 20 million liter cistern was emptied of water for cleaning back in 1984, for four weeks, and has a 40-some second echo. An entire album and film, Vor Der Flut (before the flood) was made from various musicians, sound experimenters, and dancers, including an alphorn player!
Pauline Oliveros returned stateside and found another enormous cistern with incredible echo under the decommissioned Fort Worden in Port Townsend, Washington. Hear music from the Deep Listening Band, made in that cistern, along with music from Wayne Horvitz. Plus, new music from Jherek Bischoff, inspired by the time Bischoff spent improvising that very same underground tank with its 45-second reverb decay.
