Austin is home to the Whole Foods headquarters, and their flagship store is something to witness. As a guy who lives in a neighborhood that lacks a gourmet grocery store, I was kind of in heaven.

Nine a.m. is the perfect time to hit Whole Foods, located at the intersection of 6th Street and Lamar Boulevard. Not only is it nearly free of other customers, they have a truly delicious breakfast bar. Yes, 'delicious' and 'breakfast bar' are not mutually exclusive. Vic and I chow down on migas (scrambled eggs and peppers), turkey sausage, flour tortillas, and something called 'breakfast chicken.' Also, I inhale a little ditty called 'creme brulee french toast,' which is more like something the British would call bread pudding and eat for dessert. Organic orange juice, a glass of water. At some point, it occurs to me that I'm eating breakfast in a grocery store on a weekday and that, outside of this fancy Austin mainstay, this might suggest I've hit the skids. But no, it's just a good time to venture further into the store, where you can buy organic cotton clothing, barbecue and silver thermal tote bags that keep hot things hot and cold things cold.
