Listen to some of the new album by The Westerlies, Theo Bleckmann, This Land, a collection of folk and protest songs by Woody Guthrie, Bertholt Brecht, Joni Mitchell, and original tunes. Hear new music by trombonist and composer Andy Clausen who sets poetry by Agha Shahid Ali, along with a work by Theo Bleckmann - “Another Holiday,” written after the Pulse Nightclub shooting.
Then, listen to some of the new record by CARM, aka CJ Camerieri, trumpeter of yMusic. These original songs from Camerieri toe and test the boundary lines between jazz, classical, pop, and the timeless sounds of Ennio Morricone. Hear three songs, featuring collaborations with Sufjan Stevens and Shara Nova, to name just a few of the bright musicians included, all from CARM’s self-titled debut.
There’s music by David Byrne inspired by the Dirty Dozen Brass Band from his “Music for the Knee Plays,” and composed for Robert Wilson’s The Civil Wars along with high-spirited music with a nod to doo-wop horns from Lester Bowie's Brass Fantasy. Plus, hear an arrangement of Thelonious Monk, “Monk’s Mood,” as played by Sharon Freeman and a brass quintet.
