Hear works commemorating the 9/11 attacks, by Pulitzer Prize-winning composers Julia Wolfe, Steve Reich, and John Adams, and a choral requiem by Robert Moran.
Both Steve Reich and John Adams used an almost documentary approach to the events of 9/11 with recorded sound and the setting of poignant text; hear excerpts from both of their works written in response to the attacks of September 11, 2001. There’s also Julia Wolfe’s piece for solo piano, “Compassion,” also written in response, as played by pianist Lisa Moore.
Also, hear music based on the Morse code sequence of an S.O.S. by the late French-born New York composer Elodie Lauten. And listen to some of Robert Moran’s beautiful “Trinity Requiem” written for the nearby Trinity Church choir, cellos, and harp.
