Listen to prepared piano-based minimalism from Hanakiv, a composer and musician from Estonia (now based in London). Hear music from ‘Goodbyes’, her debut recording which “draws on influences as diverse as Tim Hecker, Björk,Kara-Lis Coverdale, Arvo Pärt, Erkki-Sven Tüür, and Aphex Twin as well as her own cultural heritage”, (Gondwana Records).
Then, hear repeating riffs and groove galore in Dessner’s work, “Haven” for two pianos and two guitars, from the record, El Chan, a collaboration with the piano duo of sisters Katia & Marielle Labeque, and with guitarist David Chalmin.
Also, listen to music from from English composer Jane Antonia Cornish’s 2022 record, Sierra - a reflective and subtle work called, “Sky” for multiple layers of pianos, as played by Vicky Chow, the world-class soloist, collaborator, educator, mentor, and a member of Bang on a Can All-Stars. Plus, music by Brooklyn composer Anthony Vine, from his work Devotions, a collection of seven little litanies and recursive refrains based on a 14th century motet, as performed by the trio, longleash, who play violin, cello, and harmonium instead of piano.
