Local Chrysler car dealers are expressing frustration that the bankrupt company is shutting some of them down. Of the 789 dealerships that will be closed nationwide, 27 of them are in the metro area. Mark Sheinberg is the president of the Greater New York Automobile Dealers Association. He tells WNYC's Brian Lehrer dealers carry most of the costs and risks of the car industry:

SHEINBERG: The dealers do not cost the manufacturers anything at all. As a matter of fact we're 90 percent of their revenue. We buy cars, we buy parts from the manufacturer, we even buy the signs that are our front of the dealership.

General Motors is also closing dealerships. It's not clear how many of the 1100 ones that will be closed down will be in the metro area.
