New York, NY —
The city has threatened to revoke the permits of the developer of a Midtown high rise tower where a crane collapsed in March, killing seven people.A letter sent to developer James Kennelly shows 28 objections to his current building plans. All of them have to do with zoning regulations.
It's been about a month since former Department of Buildings Commissioner Patricia Lancaster admitted the permits were likely given in error.
According to the letter, issues include the configuration of the building, how close it is to others surrounding it and its lack of commercial space. The DOB says there is no problem with the building being 40 stories or higher. Right now, it's 19 and elected officials who represent the area want it to stay that way.
But in a written statement, Kennelly said he's confident all requirements will be met and the building will go up as originally planned. He has 10 days to make revisions.
