Those outraged by the not-guilty verdicts in the Sean Bell police shooting case got a chance to speak up yesterday at a public forum on community-police relations hosted by U.S. Rep. John Conyers.Conyers, the Chair of the House Judiciary Committee, called for justice and accountability.
Queens Congressman Gregory Meeks said the government can't allow the Judge's acquittal to be the "end of the quest for justice."
MEEKS: We, who are members of the United States Congress, must realize and utilize our legislative powers and the moral authorities of our offices to help the victims of unwarranted and excessive use of force seek and redress grievances at a federal level.
REPORTER: Several of the speakers also blasted the Police Department not sending its top brass to the forum.
A spokesperson for Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said he didn't attend because he didn't receive a formal invitation.
