New York, NY —
Governor Spitzer is painting a bleak picture of the foreclosure crisis in New York over the next 2 years. WNYC's Cindy Rodriguez reports.
While addressing a group of affordable housing builders, Spitzer said the reforms put forward by the Bush administration are too narrow and won't help those closest to foreclosing. He says New York is part of a coalition of governors and attorneys general from 10 states that are pushing mortgage service providers to modify the terms of their loans.
He says the group has met with 90% of the providers and described negotiations as tough going. Quoting federal numbers, the governor said there could be an estimated 68,000 foreclosures in New York over the next 2 years. For WNYC, I'm Cindy Rodriguez.
