Commission to Review Albany Scandal

The state Ethics Commission will investigate the Spitzer administration's alleged misuse of state police to spy on a political rival.

REPORTER: A Republican led committee in the state senate has also launched a preliminary probe into the matter. Committee chair George Winner says investigators will start by reviewing materials from the attorney general and the state inspector general's offices.

WINNER: We don't rule anything out and we're make any pre-judgments. We're right now in the fact-finding stage of looking at the report and the underlying data contained therein to determine whether or not legislative action is appropriate to deal with these abuses.

REPORTER: Winner says he hopes the review doesn't take more than a few days. Governor Spitzer's spokeswoman has said any new investigations would be a waste of time and taxpayer money, since the attorney general and inspector general have already issued their own reports.
