New Jersey's Legislature has approved a $33.4 billion state budget. For the first time since 2001, there are no new taxes or fee increases.
REPORTER: Nearly half of the budget is devoted to property tax relief, including a program to send rebate checks averaging $1,051 to most homeowners. New Jersey has the highest property taxes in the US, averaging $6,330 per homeowner or twice the national average.
REPORTER: The budget was adopted was adopted 9 days before the July 1st constitutional deadline. Last year's discord over the budget led to a week-long shutdown of state government.
