New York, NY —
Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards unveiled his anti-terrorism strategy yesterday during a visit to the city. He also took the opportunity to blast the Bush administration and his Republican rivals. WNYC's Elaine Rivera reports.
REPORTER: At a midtown Manhattan press conference, Edwards says his strategy would call for rebuilding the military, creating a new national security budget and sending a corp of 10,000 professionals to assist struggling nations. The Democratic candidate says the Bush administration's war policies are failing. He also contends that most of his Republican rivals, including Rudolph Giuliani, are trying to one-up each as to who is more supportive of the Iraq war.
EDWARDS: I think they want to become George Bush on steroids.
REPORTER: President Bush has maintained that the Iraq war will reduce terrorism and bring democracy to the Middle East. For WNYC, I'm Elaine Rivera.
