New York, NY —
Presidential hopeful Rudolph Giuliani's 4 New York fundraisers were marred yesterday by a vocal protest among firefighters and their families who oppose his campaign. WNYC's Elaine Rivera reports.
REPORTER: The more than 3 dozen protesters jeered as Giuliani arrived in a black SUV at a Bay Ridge, Brooklyn fundraiser. They say they'll continue efforts to challenge what they describe as Giuliani's heroic September 11th legacy. They contend that the former mayor failed firefighters by not providing proper radio equipment and then would not allow them to continue to search for remains. Captain Peter Gorman, head of the local fire officers association, says they're not letting up.
GORMAN: We're trying to peel him back like an onion, layer by layer. Our message to Rudy is that we're going on your home turf, in any state and we will continue to tell the truth about Rudy Giuliani.
REPORTER: A Giuliani spokesman says the former mayor proved his bravery and leadership that day and it was terrorists who were solely responsible for the attacks. For WNYC, I'm Elaine Rivera.
