Republican Fundraiser Attracts Big Names

Last night's Republican state committee fundraiser in Midtown drew presidential hopefuls Rudy Giuliani and John McCain. WNYC's Elaine Rivera reports.

More than 1,000 people paid $1,000 for a chicken dinner to hear Giuliani and McCain's stump speeches. Giuliani said he would do for America what he did for New York - cut taxes and make it safe. He spoke of taking on terrorists and said he supported aggressive interrogation techniques. He also said he would help state Republicans, who have been losing ground in the Assembly, rebuild the party.

Meanwhile, McCain re-iterated his support for staying in Iraq. While he said the war has been mismanaged, he argued that pulling the American military out now would indicate surrender and create chaos. For WNYC, I'm Elaine Rivera.
