New York, NY —
REPORTER: Today, a city panel votes on a plan to refurbish the parks of Randalls Island by using funds from 20 private schools. Students from those schools would get preference on some of the sports fields. But Jane, an 11th grader at the Dalton School, says she's opposed to the idea.
JANE: Just because we're more privileged and we have clearly more money than a lot of other schools, and we can afford to pay for the fields, I don't think it's fair, because they can't afford to do that. I don't think it's fair that we should have the privilege of having first dibs at Randalls Island.
REPORTER: Advocates for the plan say the new funds will benefit everyone. But Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer says he's opposed to any privatization of parkland and will vote against the plan.
