Petropolis: New York and Her Pets

New Yorkers and their pets -- we all know how deeply the obsession can run. Designer jackets for dogs, high-end food for felines, exotic animals sharing close quarters with their "people"... What you may not know is that the history of New York has always included pets. All that's really changed is the way we think about them...and what we buy for them. An exhibit just opened at The New York Historical Society about pets in the city called Petropolis. Kathleen Hulser is the curator.

The exhibit at the New York Historical Society runs through November 9th...In the name of full disclosure, WNYC is the media sponsor.

By the way, this Sunday there's a chance to adopt a pet from the ASPCA which will have its mobile adoption center outside the museum on 77th Street and Central Park West.
