The latest pedicure fad is fish. Tiny, toothless fish that exfoliate feet through ticklish nibbles. But Bronx state senator Jeff Klein says the practice is unsanitary, and cruel to the fish.
What they're doing here clearly is starving these fish. Fish do not feed on people's feet. They feed on plankton or other vegetable matter. By starving these fish, that's why they are nibbling at people's feet.
But salon owner Sun King at Ritz Nail and Spa in Astoria begs to differ.
Skin won't come off, it's just the dry skin, like nibbling your feet away. So I definitely think, massage effect.
Still, King says he's stopped offering fish pedicures because he expects it to be banned. Other salons throughout the city continue to offer the service, especially in midtown and Brooklyn.
