311 Trained to Tackle Education Queries

A new service is available around-the-clock to assist parents with their questions on public schools. Mayor Bloomberg says that parents' calls will no longer be bounced between several hotlines. Now they just have to dial 311, and a new option will transfer them to a single education expert.

The operators are trained to answer questions about enrollment, school buses, and admissions.

Parent coordinators in place in every school are still the point contact for questions related to a specific school or classroom.

Common questions the new 311 service will be able to answer include:

* How do I register my child for school?
* Is my child eligible for the school bus?
* What time will the school bus pick up and drop off my child?
* How does the admissions process work for high school/middle school/pre-kindergarten/gifted and talented programs?
* How do I access my child’s data online?
