Competitors rolled up their sleeves yesterday at the the 32nd Annual Arm Wrestling Championships, held at the Port Authority Bus Terminal. The contest drew 35 participants, with some competitors traveling from as far as Ukraine and Turkey to take part. Typically a bar hall pastime, arm wrestling enthusiasts say they’re drawn to the game because of the intensity of the sport. In fact, advocates are petitioning the Olympic Committee to make it an Olympic sport.

WNYC's Karina Ioffee caught up with Jared Vale, one of the organizers of the event who explains the draw.
