Guest Picks: John Hodgman

John Hodgman talks about his favorite books, movies, and more after his recent appearance on The Leonard Lopate Show

What have you read or seen lately (book, play, film, etc.) that moved or surprised you?

I am finally watching THE WIRE, and find it as addictive as they all say.  Intrinsically beautiful and novelistic.  But also strangely nostalgic.  As I watch I remember where I was when everyone was telling me to watch in 2006.

What are you listening to right now?

“Drop of Holy Water” by Cynthia Hopkins (under the banner of her band, Gloria Deluxe).  The one song that captures the incapturable feeling of what it’s like when you’re writing (or singing, or playing, or acting) well.

What’s the last great book you read?

Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin.  It is THE WIRE of fantasy novels.

What’s one thing you’re a fan of that people might not expect?

All of the Real Housewives, and Andy Cohen’s weird jazzy talk show about them on Bravo.

If you only had one day left, how would you spend it in New York City?

Filling out a questionnaire at WNYC.
