Activists are rallying outside Manhattan's Criminal Court on Monday after a transgender woman died on Riker's Island last week.

New York City's Department of Correction says 27-year-old Layleen Polanco was found unconscious in her cell on Friday afternoon. She was pronounced dead about an hour later.

The DOC said it has found no evidence of foul play. Polanco was arrested in mid-April on misdemeanor assault and drug possession charges. An investigation is on going.
