What NY Parents Should Know About COVID Vaccines For 12-To-15-Year-Olds

On Monday, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration authorized Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine for use in adolescents aged 12 to 15. The move expands eligibility by millions of people, and some public health experts say it could be key to blunting transmission in New York City.

One of those is Professor Donna Hallas, the director of the Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Program at NYU's Rory Meyers College of Nursing. She told WNYC's Sean Carlson that while COVID-19 doesn't appear to make the majority of young children and adolescents seriously ill, getting vaccinated would eliminate that chance.

"Plus it's going to allow these kids to go back to school, play sports, do their instruments, be with their friends and also to continuously reduce the spread of COVID-19," Hallas said.
