Antal Dorati speaks on some of the problems confronting an American symphony orchestra director.
Dorati notes that as the principal conductor of the Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra he feels obliged to play as often as possible. The MSO is the only symphony for a vast territory, another source of pressure. He believes it is the conductors duty to introduce all types of music, and all new good music is unusual when it is first written.
He talks about how music should be like the weather. And it should be an integral part of people's life, good or horrible, always there.
