Curator Jennifer Chi talks about her latest exhibit, From Ancient to Modern: Archaeology and Aesthetics, at the Institute for the Study of the Ancient World. During the 1920s and 1930s, archaeological objects found at ancient sites in present-day Iraq were strategically transformed from artifacts into works of art, fundamentally changing the way we look at ancient objects even today. The exhibit brings now-iconic artifacts together with a variety of related archival material, enabling us to follow the objects as they make their way from the contexts in which they were found, to the press, and finally to museum vitrines.
