
Many artists have been facing major financial struggles during the pandemic. A report from the Brookings Institution found that fine arts and performing arts have fared the worst, with some 2.3 million jobs and $74 billion in average monthly earnings lost in creative fields between April and July.
Choreographer Miguel Gutierrez described his financial struggles recently for the podcast, Death Sex and Money. "The first thing I noticed was all the cancellation emails and the complete lack of acknowledgement of the financial component, the interaction or transaction that was like, you know, binding us. And my first reaction was anger."
