Tracking Digital Spies In 'Black Code'

"Black Code" tells the story of Citizen Lab, a group dedicated to exposing digital espionage.

Filmmaker Nicholas de Pencier joins us, along with Bill Marczak, senior research fellow at Citizen Lab, to discuss their documentary, “Black Code.” Shown as part of the Human Rights Watch Film Festival, “Black Code” tells the story of the Toronto-based group Citizen Lab, which investigates how governments and others digitally spy on people. The film follows their work, exiled Tibetan monks looking to skirt Chinese surveillance and Brazilian activists who use Youtube to criticize the government.
