Two former guests on The Leonard Lopate Show passed away this week. Glen Campbell had been an accomplished session musician before he became a star himself, recording guitar parts for everyone from Nat King Cole and Frank Sinatra, to the Monkees and Elvis Presley. He’s known for hits like “Gentle on My Mind,” “By the Time I Get to Pheonix,” and “Rhinestone Cowboy.” And Barbara Cook was a star of Broadway and cabaret. Her amazing clear soprano voice won her a Tony in the original 1957 production of “The Music Man,” and she’d go on to be a key interpreter of Stephen Sondheim. For our Bonus Weekend Podcast, we are revisiting Leonard's interview with Glen Campbell in 2000, and his interviews with Barbara Cook in 2004 and 2008.
Back in June, Kim Campbell, singer and guitarist Glen Campbell’s wife of 34 years, and his daughter, Ashley, join us to discuss Glen’s farewell album “Adiós.” You can listen to the interview here.
