Brighde Chaimbeul at Pioneer Works

Brìghde Chaimbeul

Brìghde Chaimbeul, Cleek Schrey, Nora Brown, Laura Ortman at Pioneer Works
April 8, 7:30PM. $25.58

Brìghde Chaimbeul is a Scottish piper – but she doesn’t play the familiar highland pipes. Instead, she plays the smaller version of the pipes, an instrument which is in fact called the smallpipes. It has a mellow, inviting sound – kind of like telling a highland piper to use their indoor voice. And Chaimbeul, who grew up speaking Scots Gaelic on the Isle of Skye, and whose name looks nothing like it sounds, is an absolute master of the instrument. She is also a fan of ambient and electronic music, so her performances have a distinctly contemporary feel. Brìghde Chaimbeul; the NYC-based duo of Cleek Schrey (fiddle) & Nora Brown (banjo); and violinist Laura Ortman are on a triple bill at Pioneer Works on April 8 in Brooklyn.
